Yellowstone’s Wes Bentley admits he doesn’t tell the showman about Jamie’s fate.
The fifth season of Yellowstone is currently taking a long break from the Dutton drama, giving John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) and his cowboys plenty of time to prepare for their move to Texas. After the series premiered in the summer, the Paramount drama has plenty of surprises in store for fans, including actor Wes Bentley, who prefers to stay away from spoilers.
Wes Bentley has revealed that he has let showrunner Taylor Sheridan lead the evolution of Jamie Dutton.
In the fifth season of Yellowstone, Jamie works with and sleeps with Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), a shrewd businesswoman hired by Market Equities to bring down the Duttons.
At this point in the season, fans still don’t know exactly where Sarah’s loyalties lie, as she could easily stab her new partner in the back once her boss Caroline Warner (Jackie Weaver) makes her next move to the ranch.
Unfortunately, Bentley didn’t give any clues as to what happens next, as he revealed that he hasn’t told Sheridan about his character’s journey.

“I haven’t talked to Taylor,” he said. “We talk about a lot of things, but I never ask him what’s going to happen.”
Earlier in the series, Jamie was even less in control of his life after his sister Beth (Kelly Reilly) caught him killing his biological father, Garrett Randall (Will Patton).
But as the new season progresses, the black sheep of the Dutton family finally find their place thanks to Sarah’s support.
Although he is finally about to take over the governorship from John, Bentley doesn’t want to know his story until he gets the scripts from Sheridan.
“He’ll kind of suggest things, but I never let them stick because I learned from TV that you shouldn’t listen to it,” Gold told Derby.
“You’re waiting to see the pages because I don’t want to make a decision about my character too quickly.
“So I find joy in waiting for the pages to come in and finding it all that way. »
Despite this, Bentley always struggled to be satisfied with Jamie’s current trajectory, especially between seasons four and five.

“I wasn’t going to call anyone, I was just thinking in my room,” she said.
“From the first readings of these first episodes, I said to myself, ‘He’s still very weak.’ What will he do? He must do something, he killed his own father.”
“But I was still Jamie and I realized he was stuck. [Beth’s] made a play about him that he really doesn’t know what to do.
during ” [John’s] he had to get rid of the fact that he had killed his own father and all the guilt and terrible feelings it had inspired in him and felt against him. »
“He really accepts his death here in the early episodes. He accepts his fate. »
“But here comes this man who might at least give him a chance to have her for a while before he’s killed,” he finished with a laugh.
Jamie may or may not make it to the train station before Yellowstone is completely over.
It’s unclear how long the drama will last, but given the success of its spin-offs 1883 and 1923 , it’s safe to assume that Mothership could last for at least two more seasons.
Fans may be anxious to find out what’s in store for Jamie and the other Duttons, but for now, Bentley seems to be as clueless about his character’s fate as anyone else.
Season 5 of Yellowstone will continue in the summer of 2023 on the Paramount network in the US and Paramount+ in the UK.
