Vikings – Valhalla: Season 1 Summary
Season 2 Vikings: Valhalla Coming to Netflix this Thursday, January 12th, less than a year after the first episodes of this spin-off of Ragnar’s adventures aired. To best appreciate this new burst of unaired episodes, SFR News recalls the main events of the first season.

A start full of blood and revenge for Vikings: Valhalla
Shortly after Viking Harald Sigurdson left for Norway, the British king Æthelred II, seeing a threat to England in the Scandinavian community, ordered the massacre of the Scandinavian people on the night of Saint-Brice. Harald’s brother Stan is killed on this terrible night. News of the massacre soon reaches the ears of Harald, supported by King Canute the Great, who vows revenge. In parallel, we discover another quest for revenge: that of Leif Eriksson and his sister Freydís Eiríksdóttir, who are trying to get hold of the Viking who molested Freydís. The latter finds and kills his assailant, but Freud faces the death penalty following the murder. His brother Leif decides to join the ranks of the Viking warriors who are preparing to attack London to clear the debt. Meanwhile, Æthelred II dies, and Emma, Queen of Normandy, and their son, Prince Edmund, face the viking thirst for revenge.
The king died and war was declared
Soon the main characters learn of the death of Æthelred II. And this news is not enough for Harald to seek revenge. He decides he must kill the new King Edmund in order to bring justice to his brother Stan’s death. The newly crowned ruler, whose mother Emma fears that her lack of experience may spell England’s doom.
In Uppsala, a wandering warrior attacks and kills Freud, who stands firm. When Kare, a dangerous psychopath, finds the body of a man she killed in self-defense, she decides to go after him. The battle begins in England. After falling into a trap set by King Edmund Leif, King Canute wins the battle.
Take my hand, my sweet princess
As Harald prepares to kill King Edmund and seek justice for his brother’s death, King Canute stops him. It really favors an alliance with King Edmund to rule over England. Meanwhile, Harald’s brother Olaf, who aspires to be king, kidnaps Emma and her children and threatens to kill them unless she tells him where her late husband’s gold is hidden. But King Canute rescues Emma and her children from Olaf’s clutches. The Viking ruler and Emma of Normandy fall into each other’s arms and sleep together.
In turn, Harald discovers that Olaf has a secret 12-year-old son, while Freud meets the Seer, who tells him he will. “the last”. During the festivities after the battle, King Canute makes a toast and declares that Leif and Freud’s debts are forgiven. And to end the feast in style, King Canute declares Streona a traitor and beheads him. It’s called a successful Viking party.
And subtlety…?
King Canute and Emma get married, Harald and Freydís declare their love for each other. King Canute’s father, Sven the Forked Beard, takes the place of his son, who must go to wage war in Denmark. Edmund tries to seize the throne, but is unsuccessful. Kare texts Freud and tells him that he will kill him no matter what. Soon after, Edmund has a horse-riding accident and is stabbed to death on the ground. Cold Harald and Olaf reconcile. But Leif and Freydis do not appreciate this rapprochement between the two brothers and turn their back on Harald. Kare then attacks and his archers injure Freud’s friend Haaka, and after rescuing him, he confronts Kare. The warrior confronts him, captures him and cuts off his head.
As season one draws to a close, Emma reclaims the throne of England and Olaf becomes king of Norway. But the king has no time to celebrate as King Sweyn’s army attacks. Unwary Olaf’s men flee in fear, and he decides to accompany them. As the invaders try to rape the women, Leif kills them one by one. The season ends with a shot of Leif covered in the blood of his enemies. In turn, his sister Freydis runs away with Harald.
What does the rest of the adventure have in store for us? What will happen to Leif, Harald and Freudis? We can discover it now on Netflix, and one thing is for sure: blood will flow!
