Increase in gas bills on January 1, 2023: what to expect?

According to the 2023 fiscal bill, on January 1, 2023, regulated natural gas sales tariffs (TRVG) will increase by 15%. The impact will vary by household, and this increase will still have to wait for its impact. the invoice rises from ten euros to 100 euros per year.

What is the increase in households using gas only for cooking?

Households using gas only for cooking (annual consumption less than 1000 kWh) are estimated to be affected. An increase of 5.85%this would represent an average increase of €10 per year.

A fireplace that uses gas for cooking and hot water:

Households using gas for cooking and hot water (annual consumption between 1,001 kWh and 6,000 kWh) will see their bills increase slightly. 10.51%or an average of €39 per year.

What increase for those who use gas for hot water, heating and cooking?

As for households that use gas for heating, hot water and cooking (annual consumption from 6,001 kWh to 30,000 kWh), their bill will increase. 15.31%i.e. €222 per year on average.

What about condominiums?

Finally, condominiums with annual consumption between 30,000 kWh and 150,000 kWh will experience an increase of approx. 16.92%i.e. 483.90 euros per year on average.

Who can benefit from the current gas price?

The tariff shield applies to contracts with regulated gas sales prices, as well as contracts indexed to these prices., offered by Engie and some local distribution companies (ELD). It therefore applies to households affected by TRVGs and contracts indexed to TRVGs. Therefore, this system does not apply to market natural gas contracts offered by alternative suppliers who are free to set their own prices.

The price protector was introduced to freeze government-regulated gas prices at October 2021 levels, inclusive of tax, for the period from November 1, 2021 to December 31, 2022. If this would effectively protect consumers from price increases, the end of this freeze period would mean a readjustment of regulated tariffs, which would inevitably lead to an increase in natural gas bills from January 1, 2023.

What should consumers with a non-regulated gas contract expect?

For customers with different gas contracts, the increase will depend on price fluctuations in the markets.
